Fujifilm XF 70-300mm Review - A Brilliant Telephoto lens for Landscape Photography!

Hey everyone. What’s going on? A week ago I spent a few days in Val d’Orcia, an incredible region of rolling hills in my home state of Italy. The colors in Tuscany are absolutely spectacular in Spring and early summer, where we have these vivid colors and beautiful shades of green and yellow. My girlfriend and I were guests on an incredible typical Tuscan farmhouse surrounded by breathtaking scenery. For this short trip, besides having tasted fabulous food and wine, I had the opportunity to test the new Fujifilm 70-300mm telephoto lens. So, in this video, I’ll try to do my best to give you my thoughts about this lovely lens and share some photos taken during the trip.

This time I went with a fresh approach and perspective on reviewing this new lens. Some days ago I did a straw poll on Instagram to see what people are most interested in about this lens. As expected, the vast majority asked for a comparison with the 55-200. And I think it makes perfect sense since the two lenses share, not the same, but a “similar” focal range and they’re both built for the same market segment. Curiously enough, some photographers asked me, what about the Fujifilm 50-140mm vs Fujifilm 70-300mm? I know, it might seem that it’s not really worth it to compare the two, they are not meant for the same things, of course, and with a significant price difference. Anyway, that’s exactly what I want to do in this video, and that’s for a bunch of reasons:

  • At first, I was tempted to make a comparison with the 55-200mm, but to be honest, on YouTube you can already easily find many video comparisons about the two, so I didn’t see the point of adding another similar video like everyone else.

  • Many photographers who are using heavy pro-Fuji zoom lenses, despite the different focal ranges, might find this lens a suitable and lighter substitute or addition to their kit. So, I think it can be quite interesting to see the Pros & Cons of the 70-300 compared with a Pro lens. The built quality, the user experience, and how far it is in terms of image quality from a premium piece of glass like the 50-140mm.

  • Someone might be interested in switching from the 70-300mm to the 50-140mm

  • And last but not least, just from my personal experience, I was on the fence a couple of months ago to ditch my 50-140mm for a lighter and longer lens. So, I was very excited to see how it performs and if it was worth it.
